Here, I have worked on 3 thumbnails, very "speed painting" (and not so long to think about; the ideas finally came 24h ago and did all within 12h), with different moment of day/season, trying to figure out what mood I want to capture.
I'm still unsure which one I prefer best, though I can see that the third one has a problem with value. I'm not sure how I can get highlights in a night with nothing else than the moonlight (in the woods!); I added some fireflies for ambiance and subtil nature lighting, but it's not enough and I'm not sure how to "cheat" the light without over do it (and keep the feeling of a dark night) :/
Edit: now that I think of it, the 2 first are either very warm or very cool: I should push a warm/cold contrast somewhere on each...
I couldn't find the right photo references for the characters (both for Thumbnail I & III), so I made a set up at home and used my daughters. They had lots of fun modeling for this :P
